Trump 2028: If Ex-President Loses, Most Republicans Back Another Shot—Poll

Most Donald Trump supporters want him to run again if he loses the presidential election, an exclusive poll for Newsweek has found.
The research, conducted by independent polling company Redfield & Wilton Strategies, found that 51 percent of Trump voters believe he should run again in 2028 if he loses to Kamala Harris, and 38 percent believe he should not.
The question was put to Trump voters who said they have either voted for him already in the 2024 election or intend to do so. It raises the possibility that Trump may be in a strong position to run again if he loses the election.
The poll of 1,500 voters was conducted on October 21.
Among the general voting population, 31 percent believe Trump should run again if he loses, 55 percent believe he should not.
Among Harris voters, just 13 percent believe Trump should run again in 2018 if he loses, 82 percent of them voters believe he should not, and 5 percent were undecided.
Newsweek sought email comment from the Trump and Harris campaigns on Monday.
Trump told Sinclair Broadcast Group journalist Sharyl Attkisson that he could not see himself running for a third time.
“No, I don’t. No, I don’t,” Trump said in a September 20 interview. “I think that that will be, that will be it. I don’t see that at all. I think that hopefully we’re gonna be successful,” he said.
The poll found that, among the public at large, 34 percent of women believe that Trump should run again compared to 31 percent of men. This data is not separated out by political belief. And 53 percent of women in general believe that Trump should not run again, compared to 55 percent of men.
Among Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) and the Silent Generation, born between 1928 and 1945, just 26 percent believed that Trump should run again if he loses, compared to 62 percent who believe he should not. This data was not separated according to political belief or gender.
Among Gen Z voters, born between 1997 and 2012, 33 percent believe Trump should run again if he loses, 55 percent believe he should not.
Among Millennial voters, born between 1981 and 1996, 36 percent believe Trump should run again, 51 percent believe he should not.
Overall, 90 percent of people who know they will vote say their vote is certain.
In the week running up to the October 21 poll, a majority of voters have seen both Donald Trump (67 percent) and Kamala Harris (64 percent) ‘extremely often’ or ‘regularly’ on social media, television, radio, podcasts, or another platform.
But 38 percent say they have seen more of Kamala Harris, while 33 percent have seen more of Donald Trump.
Although, 39 percent think Kamala Harris has tried to avoid the media the most in this election, against 37 percent who think the same of Trump.
And 44 percent believe Donald Trump has received proper scrutiny from the media in this election campaign, compared to 46 percent for Kamala Harris.
